Do you know that approximately 70 % of the population of the province of Quebec is concentrated in the urban part of it? So why people from the other countries and even some of the other provinces of the Quebec think that all the Quebecers are farmers? I think that it is probably because of our ancestors who them, where living in the countries.
One of my friends went to France last summer and a French boy asked her: “What’s the name of your farm?”, like as if all Quebecers would have a farm and cultivate to survive with the food that it produces. She answered to him: “A farm? But from where do you think I’m from?” Then he said: “Well, from Quebec. I thought that everyone from there was doing agriculture.” She just left him. Shocked.
I think that people from the other countries think that we all have a farm because of the history of our people, because a long time ago, well about 50 years, contrary to today, almost 70% of the population were living in the country cultivating their fields and doing reserves for the winter. But now that the society has evolved, most of the people do their grocery at the supermarket to buy their food there.
So for all the people who think that the Quebecers are all farmers: no we aren't! We are people from the 21st century.
